What does the box contain?
Two chemical and aeroallergen filters (Aero Chemical & Particle) for the Respro masks (Aero Mask and/or Sports mask)
How does the filter work?
The filter is made of a tissue which contains 95% dynamic activated charcoal (Dynamic Activated Charcoal Cloth [DACC]). This was developed by the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom for use in protective equipment against chemical and bacteriological weapons.
Respro has taken advantage of this military technology for your civilian use to filter out the pollutants produced by vehicle exhaust and chimneys as well as a wide range of other chemical substances which are irritant to the airways (ammonia, paints, varnishes, hair lacquer, fabric conditioners, eau de cologne, lotions). In this way, the Respro chemical filter offers protection against hydrocarbons (benzene, pyrenes, butadienes etc.) and acid gases (nitrogen dioxide, ozone, etc).
Does it also protect against allergens?
The DACC (activated charcoal) is laminated between polypropylene filters; thanks to the electrostatic charge of their fibres, these polypropylene filters capture the majority of particles, with an efficiency of 99% for particles >= 0.3 microns (1 micron = 1 thousandth of a mm) when air passes through them. This filter is also useful to reduce the inhalation of allergens derived from pollens, mites, animal dander, fungi and soya dust, as well as particles derived from house dust and urban pollution (heating, diesel engines and industry).
What size should I buy?
There are 3 sizes, small for children, medium for women and large for men.
¿Will this filter fit any mask?
No. The Respro aeroallergen filter can only be fitted to Respro masks (Aero Mask or Sports mask). It is important to use the same size of filter and mask. You can find out the size of your Aero Mask by looking at the letter on the velcro strap (S = small, M = medium and L = large).
How do I change the filter?
Open the plastic valve by turning its inner piece to the OPEN position. Change to used filter for a new one, and reassemble the valve.
How often do I have to change it?
Filter life is of 96 hours, i.e. if you use the filter on a daily basis, it must be replaced approximately once a month in order to maintain an adequate filtration capacity and minimal resistance to airflow.
If I don't use my filter, do I have to replace it after a time?
No, not until you have used it for 96 hours.
How do I put the mask on?
1) Place the mask over your face, fitting it to the bridge of the nose, over the bony part, not on the soft part, in order to permit correct breathing through the nose. The lower part of the mask fits under the chin.
2) Use the two velcro straps to hold the mask in place and put the nose clip over the bony part of your nose to ensure a good fit of the mask to your face.
3) Check that the mask is correctly placed by cupping your hands around it and breathing out fast; if air comes out around the sides of the mask it is too loose and you need to tighten the velcro straps a little.
